About this test
The “Tooth agenesis” genetic panel analyses genes associated with the congenital absence of permanent or primary teeth, known as hypodontia (fewer than 6 missing teeth, excluding third molars) or oligodontia (6 or more missing teeth, excluding third molars). The panel identifies pathogenic variants responsible for isolated disorders of dental development and for some genetic syndromes in which tooth agenesis is one of the features. The analysis includes, among others, the AXIN2, EDA, EDAR, EDARADD, GREM2, IRF6, KREMEN1, LRP6, MSX1, PAX9, WNT10A and WNT10B genes, which take part in signalling pathways regulating tooth development. The result can help establish the genetic cause of the condition, assess family risk and plan further diagnostics and genetic counselling.
